SmapExpo – Barcelone is an invitation to invest in Morocco

31-01-2009

The Barcelona SmapExpo, Morocco’s all-inclusive and largest ever exhibition in Spain, has shaped itself as a call for Moroccan and foreign real estate investors to invest in the north African kingdom. The expo provides all the information needed for any investor to put their money in any real-estate projects in Morocco, either for purchase or for construction.

The three day exhibition, which kicked off January 23, is gathering real estate and tourist operators, institutional players and bank representatives, but also real estate lawyers and public administrations. Another objective of the expo is also to inform visitors on the developments taking place in Morocco, mainly in the field of real estate, especially that 60% of stands in the SmapExpo Barcelona is occupied by banking and real estate operators, who came from Morocco both to show their work and offer services.

Beyond attracting investors, the expo is also a space to showcase the Moroccan centuries old culture. Exhibitions on the regional diversity, on history, handicraft, cooking and lifestyles in Morocco are scheduled in the program, which also includes conferences on Morocco’s role in Euro-Mediterranean relations and on the participation of women in Morocco and in Catalonia.

The exhibition was marked Friday by the visit of Housing Minister and Minster in charge of the Moroccan expatriates, Toufiq Hjira and Mohamed Ameur, respectively. The cabinet ministers, who were accompanied with investors and businessmen, visited this commercial exposition held by the largest real-real estate and tourist companies, both Moroccan operators and Spanish operators working in Morocco.

Speaking to MAP, Hjira said the expo combines perfectly economy with trade and culture. “This first-of-a-kind formula makes the SmapExpo a perfectly national event,” he said voicing hope the exhibition would become an annual meeting, just like SmapExpo France.

Over 100,000 visitors are expected in the exhibition, which targets the 700,000 Moroccans living in Barcelona, but also to all the Spanish people interested by Morocco’s culture and history. SmapExpo is taking place over the weekend in the prestigious SantJordi palace. It also includes music show by Morocco’s most famous classical, popular and folkloric singers and groups.
